The purpose of this site is to offer the information most sought after by farmers who use organic methods, and who farm on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
Our farmer-researchers polled farmers to determine what they most wanted to know and then they gathered - and continue to update - this information in an online database.
A computer programmer then designed an interface specifically for this content so you can quickly and easily find what you are looking for.
We've focused on providing answers to the most commonly-asked questions. For example:
- Suppliers: easily find places to buy irrigation supplies, re-may, organic animal feed.....
- Organic Rules: quickly search for the specific rules on the use of manure, rotations, antibiotics....
- OMRI: check to see if a particular product you want to use is likely ok for organic production.
- Purchasers: browse retailers and
- Price List: Check out what organic fruit and vegetables are wholesaling for on the Island.
This site has several special features. For example, when you are looking for farming supplies you can enter the first three characters of your postal code and the results will be sorted to first show what is closest to you! And once you've found the supplier you are looking for, you can immediately access their contact information, or a map of their location. You can also drill deeper and get a description of the site and see how other island farmers have rated them.
